CREAMERY OPERATOR

Woodbourne Creamery at Rock Hill Orchard is looking to employ a creamery operator. We are the first new dairy in Montgomery County in 60 years and may be the only all-pasture robotic dairy in North America.  This position will be responsible for dairy production on our farmstead creamery.  Duties include transferring and pasteurizing milk in compliance with FDA regulations. Applicant must have experience working in either a commercial dairy plant or a farmstead creamery. The available position will assist with our daily product production ensuring these processes are in compliance with HACCP & GMP policies. This person will assist to meet daily production goals and maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the facility.

The position includes transferring and pasteurizing milk, bottling, cream separation, and ice cream production/packing.  In the future, we may expand into cheesemaking as well. Perform routine tests on milk and cream. Clean equipment as needed. Document all operations as required. Training on all of the above provided.  The position may involve taking milk to a farm market and selling to the public.  Also provide tours of the creamery operation.

This is a seasonal (March-October),  full-time hourly position, with the expectation that you will work on one weekend day.

Minimum Requirements:

Experience working in a food production facility. Work in compliance with FDA and HACCP Policies. Complete routine daily paperwork and short correspondence. Current valid drivers license.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift and carry up to fifty pounds frequently.
  • Frequently reach above and below shoulder level, stoop and squat, and stand for long periods of time. 
  • Stand for long periods of time and work comfortably in variable temperature environments.
FARM STAND & PYO CHECKOUT

Rock Hill Orchard is seeking motivated, outgoing individuals to work in our busy Farm Stand and Farmers’ Market stalls.  Work involves preparing produce for sale, building displays, creating signage, ringing up customers and keeping our sales area clean and welcoming and other duties as assigned.  Friendly, helpful demeanor is a must; interest in local food and retail experience are desirable.  We are also seeking staff to work in our pick your own fields, primarily on weekends during the summer and fall.

Applicants should be able to lift 50+ lbs.  Our Farm Stand is open year-round, positions are available starting in April and continuing through Halloween.   Applicants who can work through October are given priority. Applicants should be willing to commit to working at least one weekend day, preferably both. Full-time preferred, part-time possible–exact hours will depend on specific job description.  Farm stand workdays begin at 9:30am and end 5:30 to 6:30pm. Farmers’ Market hours vary by the day. Hourly pay commensurate with experience.

EDUCATION ASSISTANT

Rock Hill Orchard is seeking a motivated and outgoing individual to guide elementary school students through agricultural arts and crafts activities during field trips to Rock Hill Orchard. Other duties will include running a “Story Time on the Farm” for preschoolers and their parent.

Applicant should be comfortable speaking in front of a group.  You will assist other farm staff in providing a fun, interactive field trip experience for students in grades K-5. We will provide information and training to help you engage children in hands-on activities, interpreting farm life. No experience necessary.

Hours will be 4 hours plus on field trip days, typically 1-3 days a week (mostly weekdays).  If additional hours are desired, applicant could also work as Field Staff or Farm Market Staff.  Position runs from May through October. Hourly pay commensurate with experience.
